Job Description:

A well established, busy three-lawyer firm in Muskoka is looking for a candidate to fill a junior associate position who is well prepared to take on independent files from the start on basic incorporations, estate planning and basic real estate transactions. This position will offer the opportunity to work on challenging and interesting files and increase experience and competency over time by undertaking a supporting role to other counsel on complex matters relating to business sales and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations as well as relief work on real estate matters during staff vacation.

Our law firm offers a great work place with a team environment.  The junior associate will receive strong support from seasoned law clerks as well as oversight and guidance from more senior counsel. The successful candidate can foster very reasonable expectations about quality of life, working hours, family time and holidays.

Applicant Characteristics:

The successful candidate must have graduated from a Canadian law school, be young in spirit but mature and settled such as to offer commitment to the position, be a quick learner, possess high competency and brilliance (i.e. excellent transcripts, LSAT scores and bar exam results) without compromising common sense and application of knowledge, and possess a strong and serious work ethic.  High English writing, reading and comprehension skills are required (experience or background such as an English degree is not required, but is definitely a bonus).  The position will require the successful candidate to work efficiently while multitasking and cooperating with all members of the law team.  Prior work experience as a law clerk would be an advantage, and practical, in-firm work experience of a minimum of one to three years is required.

Application Requirements:

Each candidate’s application should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae (including year called to the Bar, educational history and relevant work experience), law school transcripts, LSAT score, dates of passage of the Barrister and Solicitor exams (including all attempts), and a writing sample expounding reasons why you would be the perfect candidate, taking an honest look and describing your strong points in character, life and career.

Key Dates and Position Start Date:

The start date of the position is flexible depending on the successful candidate’s work situation.
